The social dilemma:
Why I’m staying off of IG permanently

If you have not watched social dilemma, I urge you to stop what you are doing and go watch it now on NETFLIX. You will be blown away with the tactics technical engineers have used to keep us scrolling away. I’m guilty of it. I have or should I said had a ‘Fear of Missing Out.’ I felt my only way to stay connected with people on a large scale was to have social media. But what about the days before social media? People were still connected. I believe more personally then today. We traded hugs and in person contact, with emoji’s and filtered facetime.
What made me quit cold turkey was the part in the movie where the young teenage girl was looking for validation from people through her posts. Are we all guilty of that? Why do I post my dope brightly filtered images? Just because I think there great, why do I feel the urge to share? To get the same response. Oh, the irony.
This film makes you really want to stop and evaluate yourself. I’m a mom who has two kids that look up to me. I do not want them to have a social media account. In fact, I deleted all images on the account I created for my daughter to share her milestones photos and videos with family. I pray things change by the time she gets of age to when we actually talk about the appropriate age for her to explore the option of social media. Until then, I’m going to focus on today.
What you will see on my blog is complete honesty. I will focus on the backstage preparedness rather than the glitz and glam you most likely see on blogs and social media. There will be sponsor free information where I tell you the honest truth of using the product, how long I’ve used it, and even the necessary pros and cons.
Stay well everyone! Yes, I’m ok. No, I’m not becoming anti social and wanting to get off the grid. That film really moved me to change my thought process, and to be an activist on person to person contact, rather than put all my focus and energy into a virtual world. To keep my privacy and not be a puppet for technology.
